Get Involved With Our Community at St. Margaret’s Church
We believe that God has called us all to serve Him in this community. God has given us all gifts we can use in His service. Please do let us know if you would like to join a team and serve God in St Margaret’s.
All groups are currently suspended with the exception of the Gardening Team. Life groups continue on Zoom.
Our Music Group is led by Hammad Baily – worship director. Our contemporary worship band includes guitars, bass, drums, percussions and vocals. We have a great keyboard but no one to play it regularly on Sunday’s. We encourage anyone with a little talent and a lot of passion to join our practises on Thursday evenings at 7pm in St Margaret’s. Age is no barrier to joining the music group as we currently have guitarists and drummers from age 12 upwards. If you would like more information contact Hammad Baily or Rev Sally Baily
Jesus spent 3 years doing life with His disciples in order to prepare them for living in the world as His followers. Our life groups are intended to equip people for living as Christians today. We study the bible together, share food, pray for one another and offer pastoral support in times of need. We are currently studying a 15 week called Jesus-Shaped People. If you like to join us on this discipleship adventure please do come along to St Margaret’s on Tuesday evenings at 7pm or St Andrew’s on Monday morning at 11am. These are open life groups that you can join from 1st September 2019.
St Margaret’s has an amazing set of 6 Tower bells that have undergone extensive restoration and repair in 2014, made possible with a generous grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The bells were actually cast in the churchyard in 1769 and the last time any restoration work was done to them was in 1903. The bell ringing team – led by Tower Captain Matthew Peperell – meet on a Monday evenings at 7.15pm to practice their ringing technique. They ring on Sunday mornings from 10.15am – 10.55am before the morning service as often as possible. Newcomers are always welcome and experienced ringers would be a gift from God for this small team.

St Margaret’s Handbell Ensemble was started when Jessica Lok of Bellprints Handbell Ensemble (Hong Kong) visited us for the first time in 2017 and started teaching a small group to ring the handbells that had been donated years earlier. Handbell practise takes place on alternate Monday’s at 3.30pm. If you want to join us please do contact Ann Somes – the Bell Ringing Secretary. To see how the professionals ring please watch the video below. Jess our teacher is the ringer on the near right of the screen.
We are blessed to have a wonderful green space around our church. Recent developments have made this more accessible with increased diversity of planting and habitat for wild life. If you are a keen gardener or just like to do weeding please do come and join our gardening team on Saturday and Monday morning from 10.30am to 1.pm. No experience necessary, tools provided. Speak to Maxine or Jenny when you arrive. For more information see Community space development.
Jesus’ ministry was often based around food, and we love to offer food and a warm welcome to anyone who comes to visit us. Join the team to help baking cakes for Wednesday coffee morning or cooking for Tuesday life group and other occasions.
The media team operate the sound and vision for our worship services, and also keep our website up to date. If you have experience of operating a sound desk and are proficient in PC skills we can provide some training to get you up to speed on our equipment. We are also looking for photographic and video skills to help us add to our media resources. Contact Matt Martin for more information.
