Greener City Grant for St Margaret’s Churchyard

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has awarded £19,988 to Edgware Parochial Church Council to turn the churchyard at St Margaret of Antioch in Station Road, Edgware, into a multifunctional space for the community.

The funding comes as part of a £1.13million pot which has been awarded to 55 projects across the capital through the Mayor’s Greener City Fund Community Green Space Grants 2018.

The grants aim to give people the chance to create new and improved green spaces in the hope to make London the first national park city, with more than half of the capital green by 2050.

Our vision for the community space

We plan to improve our large old churchyard and turn it into a sanctuary for our local community by improving pathways and lighting some of the main paths, planting trees and hedges providing seating and space to park bicycles. We plan to encourage growth of wild flowers, provide educational noticeboard around the churchyard which could then be used by our local primary school. The churchyard is on Station Road Edgware close to the junction with the A5, there is heavy traffic in the area and planting along our border with Station Road would help to combat air pollution.

This is very welcome
news for the people of Edgware…

Andrew Dismore, London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden

We are delighted to receive this grant which will enable us to transform the churchyard into a sanctuary for the local community to come and rest in this historic, tranquil green space in the heart of Edgware
